BIOgraphy

Tom is a freelance trombonist based in London UK.

He grew up in Norwich where he was a chorister at Norwich Cathedral and went to Norwich School before leaving to study Jazz Trombone at the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire. There he was taught by Ashley Horton, Jeremy Price, Pete Beachill, Purcy Pursglove, Hans Koller and Mike Williams. 

After his studies, Tom moved to London in 2013. He is now a well established freelance player, holds the lead trombone chair in the Syd Lawrence Orchestra, is a member of the London Jazz Orchestra, and has held a chair in many West End shows including Guys and Dolls, Deam Girls and Sister Act. He is also a member of the Louis Dowdeswell Big Band and John Wilson’s Sinfonia of London.

Tom has also performed/recorded with Level 42, the Ronnie Scott’s Jazz Orchestra, the BBC Big Band, The BBC Concert Orchestra, NYJO, MYJO, The Jean Toussaint Sextet, The Gareth Lockrane Big Band, Jacob Garchik, the Dave O’Higgins Big Band, James Tormé, Jamie Cullum, Ant and Dec, Bruce Forsyth, Robbie Williams, Jess Glynne, Alfie Boe, Micheal Ball, and many more.

 

In addition to his freelance activities, Tom has put together other projects such as the Tom Dunnett Sextet. Tom writes original music, drawing from a wide range of influences.

TOM DUNNETT SEXTET

The Tom Dunnett Sextet is a newly formed ensemble featuring exciting young talent playing original music. 

The three front line of Trombone, Tenor and Trumpet provide a great platform for composition drawing on influences that embrace the likes of Miles Davis, Charles Mingus, Dave Holland and Chris Potter.
